How to Check Fiber Optic Coverage

Know How to Check Fiber Optic Coverage: Is your ADSL starting to feel tight? Well, I understand. Between high-definition streaming services like Netflix, online music platforms like Spotify, and internet gaming, even 20 Mbps connections can seem too limited. I bet that to solve the problem, you would like to activate a fiber optic offer, but you still don’t know if this technology reaches your area, do you? Don’t be concerned, and if you’d like, I’ll assist you in disposing of any doubts regarding it.

How to Check Fiber Optic Coverage

If you dedicate five minutes of your time to me, I can explain to you, in fact, how to check fiber optic coverage and how to find out at what speed you could navigate with the offers of the various operators. I assure you it is not difficult.

Check Fiber Optic Coverage

All you need to do is connect your website on behalf of the Internet service provider you’ve selected, fill out a short form and wait for the “verdict.” In no time will you find out if the fiber optic network reaches your home or if you have to “settle” for the classic ADSL (among many quotes since there are many areas where even ADSL is a mirage!).

Just a small clarification before starting: even if your city is covered by optical fiber, it is not certain that you can navigate at the maximum possible speed.

Depending on the type of technology used to deploy the network in your area, you may have a “real” fiber that runs at full speed or a kind of “hybrid” fiber that travels at slower speeds. Going into more detail, if your area is covered by the FTTH (Fiber to the Home) network, you can surf at the maximum possible speed, which is usually up to 1 Gigabit.

In contrast, if it is covered by the FTTC (Fiber to the Cabinet) network, you can go to the maximum of 200 Mega. This is because the connection is composed solely of optical fibers within the areas covered by the FTTH network. How to check TIM fiber optic coverage

Suppose you have chosen TIM as the Internet provider to subscribe to and, therefore, want to check fiber optic coverage for this operator. In this instance, it is necessary to first join the relevant section on the website of the operator.

If you previously indicated that you already have a telephone line, please also specify the area code and telephone number of your interest by filling in the Prefix and Number fields that you see appear with the data in question.

Click on the button Continue. Within a few seconds, the page will reload, and you will get the test result. More precisely, at the top of the screen, you will find a box containing the message In [address] TIM’s fast Internet covers you in technology [technology type].

They will also show you the offers that you can possibly subscribe to with the operator. You can view more information about the estimated speed and latency by clicking on the Estimated speed link.

How to Check Fiber Optic Coverage

Now, I want to talk to you about Open Fiber, a company that, with its network, offers an FTTH network of up to 1 Gigabit in download and upload in many cities. It does not directly provide a connection to the customers.

Still, it leases its network to the providers, who then offer the connection to the end-users, among the providers that currently use the Open Fiber network. To check the coverage of the Open Fiber network in your city, then connect to the website page of the company responsible for this purpose and enter your city and your address in the City, Address and No. fields, selecting the various suggestions proposed (in order to avoid errors of the form).

Another service that could be useful for checking fiber optic coverage is Fibermap. You can find out if your area is served by optical fiber and what type of technology is used for network distribution: FTTH or FTTC.

To use Fibermap, go to its website and select your region and your province from the proposed lists, then fill in the fields that are shown on the screen with your municipality, your address, and the relative house number by clicking once. While the VDSL item refers to hybrid FTTC connections that make use of the copper cable), you will find indicated if the fiber optic coverage and at what speed.

Also, if coverage is available, by clicking on the Detail link, you can view more information, such as distance from the cabinet, estimated speed, etc.

The test to verify the fiber optic coverage was successful, but you still don’t know which offer to subscribe to? Then I highly recommend you take a “jump” on Sos Tariffs.

If you have never heard of it, know that this is a site that allows you to compare the offers for ADSL, optical fiber, and mobile telephony of all the main operators. It is extremely simple to use and does not require registration.

To use Sos Tariffs to compare the offers dedicated to optical fiber, all you have to do is connect to the appropriate section of the service website and “browse” all the available tariffs.

The offers displayed in the comparison table are automatically arranged in order of price (from the cheapest to the highest), and to view all their details (cost of calls, modem rental fee, activation costs, and so on), you have to click on the item Learn more about them.

Using the buttons and control bars in the left sidebar, however, you can refine your search so as to view only the offers that belong to a particular operator or that certain respect parameters, such as the inclusion of unlimited calls, a monthly cost not exceeding a specific amount and so on.
