9 Best Reminder Apps for iPhone in 2022

The Best Reminder Apps for iPhone: Writing a note ” Choosing the best calendar app for iPhone,” and in general, the comparison made me think that it is worth revising the logic of working with reminders.

What is a reminder app, and what do I need it for?

As the name suggests, reminder apps serve exactly one purpose: They are supposed to ensure that you don’t forget anything to do with everyday stress. Modern smartphones have a calendar with a reminder function, but the tools also offer various additional features that optimally support you in managing and structuring your tasks. This will give you a better grip on your appointments and free your head from the really important things.

A good reminder app should be a central storage location for your appointments, tasks, errands, and daily routines and remind you of these in good time (e.g., via push notification or alarm).

Top 9 Best Reminder Apps for iPhone

Since I started using Calendars 5 to work with the calendar, reminders have moved into it. In my native application, I did not disable anything, and I just did not use it.

Best Reminder Apps for iPhone

I remember that it made me leave the standard notes:

  • Lack of “advanced” recurring events such as “every last Saturday of the month”;
  • Indistinct appearance with division by lists, when it is not clear what exactly needs to be done and when and not the most obvious sorting;
  • The intrusiveness of reminders that hang and hang until you make them.

1. Calendars 5 – Best Calendar and reminder app

I understand that the last point is rather a plus than a minus, but more on that below. As a result, the choice fell on Calendars 5 in which one had both calendars and reminders/todo, which supported very advanced settings for repeating reminders.

Reminders in which did not interfere and did not constantly pop into my eyes more often than I needed. And I needed it at the moment the application was launched.

2. Fantastical – Best Calendar & Tasks app

However, since the Fantastical application won for working with the calendar and uses native reminders, it became necessary to find a solution to how to work with the Best Reminder Apps for iPhone. And here, it is obvious that one application cannot be made because reminders by their nature are completely different.

Personal effectiveness, self-development, skill training, yoga is all there, etc

There should be repetitions or some volumes for this type of the Best Reminder Apps for iPhone, such as “read one new book a month.” These events do not have a clear schedule, what needs to be done today, and not on the next weekend. Again, if you miss something and do not do it, no one will worsen. Well, you will not do yoga 5 times a week, as planned, but only 4. This whole scheme works on personal responsibility in the first place.

All kinds of housework

Very close to the first option, because there is both repetition and the absence of a big negative if something is not done; however, a very important opportunity here is teamwork. For example, anyone in the family can dust the coffee table. Ideally, the application will help the children to get involved in this “routine” and reduce the routine, for example, through the form of competition.

Important events with deadlines

A completely separate kind of Best Reminder Apps for iPhone is something related to deadlines that cannot be disrupted, but which can be done in advance. For example, pay by credit card while the grace period is in progress. It can be paid from the moment the account statement is generated until the deadline for payment. These events are also recurring.

Important events with exact time or date

Unlike previous types of events, these must be done strictly at a certain moment. These events can be recurring. One approach says that for such events, you need to make a mark on the calendar. However, it is quite easy to run such a virtual “appointment” in the calendar, at least for me. I would like for such events to be haunted by the phone exactly until this reminder is fulfilled.

Reminders for all sorts of things

For example, I saw an advertisement for a movie while I was on the subway, and in order not to forget to look at more information about it at home, I set myself a reminder. Usually, these events are not recurring.

3. Apple Reminders – Best Native Reminder

Don’t neglect Apple’s Best Reminder Apps for iPhone just because it’s free. The fact that this app comes preinstalled on all iOS devices means that you only need to sign in to your iCloud account in Settings to manage your to-do lists

Adding tasks is quick and easy, especially when using the ubiquitous iOS Share button, or when dictating to Siri. Say something like “Add toothpaste to my shopping list,” and Siri will add this item to any list that matches “shopping.” Later, the program will definitely remind you of the need to make this purchase when you find yourself in the appropriate place.

You can also create recurring reminders that follow predictable weekly or monthly patterns or custom patterns such as “first of every month” or “every six days.” Up to three levels of priority can be added to individual elements, as well as descriptive notes.

Optionally, you can share your lists with other Apple Reminders users by sending them an invitation to a valid email address.

4. OurHome – Best Reminder apps for home routine

It has a repetition of tasks. It doesn’t bother you with the Best Reminder Apps for iPhone. You can assign different people to tasks, and you can even rotate tasks: today, you do, and in a week, the child.

Most importantly, each task can be assigned a price in points, and there is a “store” where you can choose what these “points” to spend on. For the late completion of the task, penalties can be included.

There is time and desire to do something around the house – launch the application and go. Didn’t wash the floors this weekend – you will wash the next ones, it’s not a big deal. However, do not forget to do something rare like “grease the hinges” once a year.

5. OmniFocus – Best Reminders App for Work

OmniFocus is one of the most feature-rich to-do and reminder management systems around. OmniFocus is available for both iOS and macOS, and you’ll need to purchase both apps separately if you want to use this task manager on both platforms. For your money, you get a professional-grade to-do list management system with great cross-project organization features.

Capture tasks with OmniFocus inbox, then assign them to different projects. You can organize these elements independently of your projects using tags, making it easy to find the task you want using the built-in search engine. Once you’ve created a task, assign it a due date, take notes, estimate the time required, and repeat criteria. Set a requirement for custom notifications to make sure the task does not escape your attention.

With just a few clicks, you can pause or postpone entire projects and then reactivate them. OmniFocus will sync your data across multiple devices.

OmniFocus currently lacks the collaboration feature, but the developers say this feature will be added for sure.

6. Balanced – Best apps to develop good habits

The creator of Balanced has another very similar application, Productive, only it is more attached to certain points and is more aimed at developing good habits. It was it that won among similar applications. But unlike Balanced, it had competitors.

Probably a year and a half ago, I started using the application, which is now called Coach.me. Then it was an interesting fresh concept: you choose from a list of habits or things that you want to do on a regular basis from a list of other people. You set yourself a goal, and the application starts reminding you about them. You can see how many people are doing the same. I used it for about six months until, at one point, I just gave it up. Either I took too much on myself or got tired of the same type of reminders. In general, I just got bored with this application. It still reminds me of all those things that I added to it, but I don’t open it. I won’t even take a picture of it.

The next application is Way of Life. The authors talked specifically about visualization as a way to make you do something. Not just “Well done, completed the task 43 times”, but the scale on which you can see your progress. In the interface, missed days are shown in red, etc. This application has replaced Coach.me. True, I do not have a complete satisfaction from him, so only two types of reminders passed into it for testing.

Although the authors themselves talk about the visual component, at the bottom of the free version, a banner kills a noticeable part of aesthetic pleasure. The second problem of the application is the lack of time-of-day binding. If I have one reminder for the morning and another for the evening, then +1 will hang on the phone screen for the evening reminder all day.

7. Any.do – Best To do list App for iPhone

Any.do combines list management, scheduling, and reminder systems into one easy-to-use package. The app is free, but some advanced features are only available with a monthly or annual subscription.

Any.do gives you the ability to integrate with both iOS Reminders and Calendar apps, which you can enable or disable at any time in the settings. Any.do was created with collaboration in mind, which makes it easy (with just a few clicks) to share individual tasks or entire lists with other users so they can work with them too.

Tasks can be supplemented with sub-tasks, notes, attachments, or reminders. Your schedule is automatically synced with Any.do servers and other devices.

The app has one particularly useful feature called Day Scheduling. With this feature enabled, your to-do lists will be scanned to look for outstanding tasks that you can re-schedule, postpone, mark as completed, or delete altogether.

8. Way of life –  Best Habit Tracker App

As I said above, the Productive application won. He also has a paid version, but the author perfectly feels the balance and understands where and when you can “stick” with payment. The application can be configured by parts of the day: night, morning, day, evening.

image

The ranges of which can be adjusted for yourself, after which the application will not remind you during the day about what you forgot to do in the morning or will have to do at night. However, you can always view the full list with one touch. Everything in the application is made in such a way that you just want to launch it. Plus unobtrusive, delicate reminders.

9. Productive – Best Free Reminder App

For such events, I used reminders in Calendars 5, and in order not to change the habit, they moved to Fantastical with control through the Best Reminder Apps for iPhone. All those advanced reps that weren’t there before are now. I run the calendar app every day to see what kind of meetings or scheduled appointments there will be, and at the same time, see reminders in it.

image

If I don’t do something today, the remainder will be carried over to the current one every next day and will not disappear until I do it. The screen also clearly shows which reminders are approaching and will appear tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. These are basically reminders that can be done a little in advance, and it turns out very conveniently.

Reminders for all sorts of things

Nothing special is needed for such events. The same native reminders shown in Fantastical are great for this. It is very convenient to add such events using Siri. The only thing is that such reminders must have a date. Although, in my opinion, all reminders should have a date, especially given my classification, where this date can be both exact and floating, but it should be.

It is also convenient that the native application has support for joint reminder lists, so that not only can you alone make an appointment with the doctor, and it was not only in your calendar.

Notifications from the native application hang on the lock screen on top of other notifications, which is also convenient and gives you an additional chance not to forget. However, there are also disadvantages:

  • A stupid list interface, especially for recurring events, in which it is not clear what is in the future and what is now. For example, a reminder about paying for the phone, I see above a reminder for tomorrow;
  • It is not possible to configure the intervals at which I can postpone events. There is a clear list;
  • You cannot make different sounds for different events;

Important events with exact time or date

In theory, a standard application could handle this. On the phone, it is very convenient to display directly on the lock screen those reminders whose date has already come or passed. They will hang there and get in the way and annoying. But it can still happen that the phone will lie down with the screen. Or you will earn so much that you will not notice that it is already 10:10, not 10:00, and they were expecting a call from you at 10:00.

Therefore, such reminders require either a special mode that does not exist or a separate application that is. It is called Due. Ideal app for events that have to be done at a specific time. It will send push notifications every minute until you react to it. If you complete the reminder, then all push notifications disappear at once, which is convenient.

It is also very convenient to add a new event. And it is extremely convenient to postpone the execution of an event at the interval you need. The native app seems awkward after that. However, I am absolutely not ready to switch to it by other types of reminders.

What could not be found

A few things that I have not yet been able to find in any of the applications that I left for use:

  • The native application has a stupid list interface. Especially for recurring events in which it is not clear: what is in the future and what is now. For example, a reminder about paying for the phone, I see above a reminder for tomorrow;
  • In the native application, I cannot make my own intervals, for which I want to postpone the reminder. I’m at work, and I can’t look at the readings of Mosenergosbyt’s meters. I want to make him remind me of this in the evening in a couple of taps, but no;
  • A reminder is triggered not just when you appear in a specific place but also at a specific time and place. That is, I can make a reminder like “When I find myself in Tokyo, go to a pub,” and “Fix the TV today when I am at home.” I don’t know if I will be home at 18 or at 19 or at 20. I would bet at 17:00 but on the condition that I am at home. And so the remainder will work at 17:00 and will hang and interfere with my TV, which I cannot fix until I am at home;
  • Start reminding at a certain time before the event. For example, you need to pay by credit card before the 21st. But 21 may be a day off. I want to start reminding me of this in three days. At first, unobtrusively, but with the approach more and more active.

Why do you need a reminder app?

To control all your affairs in the work and home spaces. And knowing the specifics of the reminders built into the iPhone, we have developed a completely different, improved notification system.

To begin with, let’s figure out what can remind you of:

  1. About upcoming meetings.
  2. About upcoming business according to your schedule.
  3. About a new assignment from one of your colleagues.
  4. About birthdays (if you, for example, create such a project, and enter all your friends’ birthdays in it).

In fact, there are a lot of options. It already depends on what exactly you need.

What does a good reminder app have to be able to do?

A good reminder tool brings your appointments and tasks together in one central location and reminds you of upcoming events and appointments in good time.

Can a reminder app also be synchronized with the calendar on my PC?

Yes, the programs in this article all have a synchronization option (e.g., for Microsoft Outlook or Exchange), but some of them are only available in the paid Pro version.

Conclusion

When you have a cool team and a lot of different tasks, relying solely on your memory is simply stupid – if you forget about even one small detail, the existence of the entire project may be at risk.
